Okay all you vegemite lovers out there, Australia day is fast approaching. I do not usually get that into the Australia day spirit (not very patriotic of me I know) however you can't go past a shop at the moment without seeing all the Aussie memorabilia. So I caved and bought these little windmill type things which I will place in my front garden. I got them from a local cheap shop. They might just add a litlle bit of aussie-ness to my hive.
I have quite a few they will look good when the breeze is blowing. |
Have a great Australia Day, keep safe and keep smiling.....
(And put another shrimp on the barbie for me)
P.S. Speaking of vegemite here is a quick recipe I just whipped up with the kids. It's fast and fun just how I like it.
CHEESE AND VEGEMITE PINWHEEL SCONES
225g plain flour
half teaspoon bicarb soda
a pinch of salt
50g butter or margarine
vegemite
handful grated tasty cheese
100ml milk
Sift the flour, add bicarb soda and a pinch of salt
rub the butter into the flour until crumbly
stir in milk mix with a blunt knife until you get a dough
flour your surface, place the dough onto surface and knead lightly
roll into rectangle shape
Warm a knife slightly and spread the vegemite evenly onto the dough
sprinkle with cheese
roll up into a large sausage shape and slice into rounds
brush tops with milk and bake in 180 degree oven for 10-12 mins or until golden
Enjoy!!!
(I also made another batch of the scone dough and spread with bavarian grainy mustard, and put in some ham and parmesan cheese. These are a bit more grown up and taste amazing.)
